Mainsail Development Group Inc was formed in 1998 and in 1999 it opened its first lodging complex. The Mainsail Suites Hotel and Conference Center is situated in a prime location within 5 minutes of The Tampa International Airport. It was developed as a private training center for Price Waterhouse under a master lease. Trainees traveled from around the world to attend a multi week hi-tech training courses at the facility. Joe Collier the founder of Mainsail and a Marriott Hotels veteran proposed the partnership between Mainsail and Price Waterhouse and the 50 million dollar complex was created. “Thinking beyond normal lodging requirements and creating a unique relationship with Price Waterhouse allowed us to make this project a reality” said Collier. This deluxe property now operates as a full service and extended stay 360 suites hotel and conference center with a host of business and recreational facilities. In 2002 Mainsail began to acquire Marriott Execustay franchises in the Southeast.

The most recent acquisition of the East Coast territory of Florida now gives Mainsail the entire Florida market, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte and Greenville metro areas. Operating under the Marriott Execustay brand, Mainsail procures, furnishes and manages luxury apartments under leases to corporate, government and leisure clients that require temporary housing. Mainsail most recently purchased and completely renovated a 320 unit apartment complex in the highly desirable South Tampa area. This property is branded as Mainsail South Residences and services the Marriott Execustay brand. In addition to corporate and contract housing, Mainsail is focusing on high end luxury opportunities.

In June of 2009, Mainsail purchased a luxury beachfront condominium, a 60 slip marina and the surrounding acreage on Anna Maria Island just south of St Petersburg, Fl. Presently; they operate the luxury condominium the Mainsail Beach Inn and will begin the construction phase of the NEW Mainsail Lodge and Marina in the Fall of 2010. In February 2010 Mainsail opened a $110 million boutique resort in the British Virgin Islands. The Scrub Island Resort Spa and Marina features 5 star amenities, spa, restaurants, conference space, astronomical observatory and a world class yachting marina. This exciting project is made up of luxury villas surrounding the marina, across the hilltops and above the pristine beaches of this private island.

As a growth strategy Mainsail co-invests with partners to acquire, develop and manage first class lodging facilities, commercial and residential complexes in the Southeast and Caribbean. Collier has collected a team of professionals who specialize in each of these key areas. This team has enabled Mainsail to successfully grow into new markets and tackle unique projects.
